Genetic Counselling and Patients
What is human genetic counselling?
Human genetic counselling is a consultation which provides those seeking advice with understandable and speciality - specific information about an existing, or assumed, risk for the occurrence of a genetically (inherited) determined disease.
The counselling interview is voluntary, and is conducted in a non-directive manner.
Genetic counselling should help those seeking advice in answering questions about a potential inheritable disease or developmental disorder, and in helping them to make autonomous decisions.
